Wholewheat Flaxseed Crackers

Wholewheat Flaxseed crackers are simple and easy to make. It tastes great with any dip or salsa you can make, and they will have much more character than the snack aisle crackers. And if you are one like me who wants to make things from scratch, you will love this. Add to it the benefits of the multifaceted flax seeds, and not just the health benefits, it gives it a unique crunch as well.

I am a cracker and dips junkie, every weekend its like a ritual, and in that case, these come in with less of that guilt baggage and to top it, that satisfaction of making things from scratch, you know exactly what went into it. Try these with our Spicy Mango Salsa this summer, and yes you can thank us later 🙂

  • 2 tbsp flax seeds
  • 1/4 cup flaxseed meal (ground flax seeds)
  • 3/4 cup whole wheat flour / atta
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tbsp brown sugar / powdered sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp butter (any temperature)
  • 1/4 cup milk

Directions for Wholewheat flaxseed Crackers

  1. Mix all the ingredients except the milk and butter, with a fork/ spoon.
  2. Add the butter, and mix it well so that the mixture becomes powdery. Now add the milk gradually and keep mixing until it becomes a nice dough, and forms a ball.
  3. Wrap it in a cling foil and refrigerate for 10-15 minutes. Use this time to prepare your tray and preheat the oven at 160C.
  4. Take the dough out, split it into 2 parts and roll it into a thin rectangle, say 1/8th of an inch. Cut in into the desired shapes and place it on the baking sheet. And sprinkle with some salt, i used some sea salt.
  5. I lined the tray with a parchment paper. Now bake it for 15-20 minutes, first 10-15 minutes on the bottom rod and the last 5 minutes with the top rod heating, or until its lightly browned.
  6. Let it cool and store in an airtight container. Serve it with the mango salsa or just some flavoured butter or some plain salsa. I want to try it with some achari butter the next time.
