Orange Basil Mojito

Orange Basil Mojito is an answer to summer, basil and orange go beautifully well with Rum unlike the traditional vodka and orange juice screwdriver. Also the only alcohol i am a bit tolerant to is Rum, i am made fun of that iam the old school kinds who drinks only water and rum but seriously nothing like the old monk rum combination, every other cocktail fails next to it 😀 But Rum and me are pretty pally for what iam and i love mixing things with rum, though orange and vodka are made for each other, orange and rum also sing pretty well together, oh no its just the language i am no tipsy 😀 So it was Orange Basil Mojito this time, also tried the vodka version, well it will then be a basil screwdriver, hell yeah.

  • 1/2 cup freshly squeezed Orange Juice
  • 10-15 fresh basil leaves
  • 1 heaped tsp light brown sugar
  • 60 ml White rum
  • 1/2 cup club soda
  • 6-7 ice cubes(crushed if possible)
  • 1 orange slice or rind for garnish
  • 1 basil sprig for garnish

Directions for Orange Basil Mojito

  1. Add 60 ml rum / vodka into your preferred glass, and keep the ice cubes ready.
  2. In a mortar and pestle combine the sugar and basil leaves and muddle really well. Add the orange juice and strain it into the prepared glass. Add the ice cubes and the soda over it.
  3. Garnish with a orange rind and a basil sprig or a orange slice and basil sprig as you like it.

People who know me well know that i am the odd combination of ‘peene ke naam pe kalank’ (not much of a drinker) and loves mixing drinks. My love for mixology dates back to 2008 when i was home alone and fell in love with the program In High spirits airing in NDTV Good times and especially with Shatbhi Basu! i wish i had an appetite like her for cocktails, then i would have picked bar tending as my alter career. But no i don’t have that liking for alcohol but my love for mixing always keeps growing.. So when i saw the day 2 prompt to b Thirst i was more than happy to try my hand on another drink.
